The good news is that you may not need to pay for membership at all if you just want it long enough to take advantage of Amazon's annual shopping extravaganza. Here are a few ways to get a short-term Prime membership to cash in on the savings.
Method One: The standard 30-day free trial
If you've never tried Amazon Prime or haven't tried it in a while, you may be eligible for a free, 30-day trial. After the 30 days, Amazon will charge you for the membership—either $15 per month or $139 per year—so don't forget to cancel before the trial is up. (Set a calendar reminder if you have to!)
Figuring out if you're eligible is simple. Just sign in to your Amazon account and visit the Prime membership landing page. If you see a button that says Try Prime, click it to sign up. If the button says Get started, then you've been to the well one too many times recently, and you'll have to wait to become eligible again.

Amazon made it official this morning: Amazon Prime Day 2024 will be on July 16 and 17 this year. The shopping event will start at 12:01AM PT/3:01AM ET on Tuesday, July 16, and conclude at the end of the day on Wednesday, July 17. As it has been for the past few years, Prime Day will actually last two full days, and it will bring thousands of exclusive, members-only deals on everything from electronics to household goods to fashion. If you can't wait a few more weeks, there are some Prime Day deals you can already shop now.
In addition to spurring a large number of sales in a short period of time, Amazon Prime Day has always been a way for the online retail giant to increase the overall number of Prime subscribers. Prime Day isn't necessarily a perk of the service like access to Prime Video content or free two-day shipping are, but it certainly helps that most deals you'll find on Amazon during the two-day event are exclusively available to Prime members. However, it's worth noting that the cost of Prime has increased significantly since the service debuted in 2005:

If you've been looking to improve your home's security but don't want to spend a fortune, now is an excellent time to shop. One of Amazon's early Prime Day deals is a 63 percent discount on a Blink bundle. For $120 — down from $320 — you can get a Blink Video Doorbell and three Outdoor 4 smart security cameras with Sync Module 2. The deal is exclusive to Prime members.
The Blink bundle allows you to monitor your home, whether you're far away or right inside. You can use Video Doorbell to answer the door, get alerts when there's motion and speak to visitors. It uses infrared night vision and 1080p HD live view to give you insight during the day or night. The device requires two double AA batteries (included in the bundle) and should last for about two years.
