Watch: A creative ‘modder' built a handmade cardboard PC

Earlier this month, a Reddit poster shared a two-minute video of a PC build… or at least an approximation of one, where almost every single component is lovingly simulated with hand-cut cardboard. The case is cardboard, the motherboard is cardboard, the graphics card is cardboard, even the (working!) CPU fan is cardboard. There are a few metal screws and brackets, and I'm guessing the power supply is only covered in cardboard, as that cardboard fan really spins and there are some actual RGB elements on the cardboard RAM.

The attention to detail is staggering. I'm not sure who made the original video (it may be the Reddit poster spotted by UFD Tech), but I was blown away when I saw that the cardboard CPU is held into its socket with a little tension bar. The cardboard hard drive—yes, in addition to the SSD, a hard drive that's realistically installed into its own

Google's mysterious Gemini smart speaker: What we know, and don't know

Was it a leak? Not really. A "leaked" product is one that's been mistakenly revealed, whereas the speaker we saw during Google's Pixel event got a clear supporting role, with F1 driver Lando Norris cheerfully chatting with the device. Google meant for us to notice the new and unannounced smart speaker.

So, what do we know about this little gray (or porcelain?) speaker? Here's a quick breakdown.

Google's new Gemini speaker: What we know for sure  It exists  That may sound obvious, but so often with rumored or "leaked" new products, we're in the land of pure conjecture. In this case (and as I just mentioned), Google clearly intended for us to notice its new speaker.

In other words, it's the real deal. A new Google smart speaker is happening.

It's got Gemini inside  F1's Lando Norris was chatting with Google's new speaker during a demonstration of Gemini Live, a Gemini mode where you can have freewheeling conversations with the AI model about any subject you want.

That's all in the way of saying this new Google speaker runs on Gemini, and besides its Gemini Live capabilities, it's virtually certain to boast

No DVD drive in your laptop? Grab this USB add-on for just $20

And right now, the best-selling external DVD drive on Amazon is currently on sale. The Amicool USB CD/DVD drive is now just $20, down from its original $29 with this sizable 31% discount. (You'll need Prime to score this special price, but if you don't have Prime, you can get it at this price anyway just by signing up for a free 30-day Prime trial.)

Why the Amicool drive is so great The Amicool drive comes with a USB 3.0 interface that transfers data at up to 5Gbps. That's fast enough for smooth working with large files, and it's also compatible with older USB standards, which is handy if you plan to use it with older laptops or PCs.

Thanks to plug-and-play, all you need to do is connect the drive via USB— no driver installations or power supply required. Almost all common formats are supported, from CD-R to DVD-RW, both for reading and burning. This makes it versatile for everything from making backups to digitizing old discs to installing older software.

Both USB-A and USB-C connectors are included here, so it's flexibly compatible with Windows PCs, MacBooks, and more. Mobile devices (e.g., smartphones and tablets)

No Wi-Fi? No problem. Local AI laptops keep you working anywhere

This is made possible by the combination of powerful CPUs, dedicated graphics processors and, at the center of this development, a Neural Processing Unit (NPU). An NPU is not just an add-on, but a specialized accelerator designed precisely for the calculation of neural networks.

It enables offline AI tools such as GPT4All or Stable Diffusion not only to start, but also to react with high performance, low energy consumption and constant response time. Even with complex queries or multimodal tasks, the working speed remains stable. The days when AI was only conceivable as a cloud service are now over.

Work where others are offline As soon as the internet connection is interrupted, classic laptops begin to idle. An AI PC, on the other hand, remains operational, whether in airplane mode above the clouds, deep in the dead zones of rural regions, or in an overloaded train network without a stable network.

In such situations, the structural advantage of locally running AI systems becomes apparent. Jan.ai or GPT4All can be used to create, check and revise texts, intelligently summarize notes, pre-formulate emails and categorize appointments.
