The Senate Homeland Security Committee voted along party lines to hold Dr. Anthony Fauci in contempt of Congress on Thursday. The resolution accuses Dr. Fauci of failing to comply with a congressional subpoena after he refused to answer questions at a hearing last week.
Dr. El-Sayed, a former public health official, narrowly defeated Representative Haley Stevens, a four-term congressional moderate, in Michigan's expensive Democratic Senate primary.
